I like the concept of organizing all of the creative spaces around the outdoor courtyard and effectively makeing the outdoors part of the teaching and learning experience.
I am happy to see that the Library will become a focal point in the new school instead of being hidden.
Regarding the Library...I'm happy hear that you like the location..we placed it adjacent to the front entry and prominently located off the main lobby to highlight its importance within the school. We have also envisioned this as a two storey space with plenty of volume and natural light...in other words, a place where kids would love to hang out. The location adjacent to the entry will create a beacon of light and a connection to the interior excitement of the building during both daytime and night-time hours.
Love the designs so far.... will there be ample change space and storage for the schools athletic, art, and band programs? Adding this after the fact (ie a portable or trailer) can be very costly and will take away from the design and facility. The football team which involves 50 students over 4 months of the year was working out of a closet this Season at the old school......These programs need more space and resources, they are part of the education and shaping process for the kids. Thanks for your consideration
I like the location and I especially like the green roof/deck.Great idea to have half school half community center!Anyway thumbs up!
I agree in regards to ample storage, change space, and appropriate facilities for clubs and teams upfront.....we should be proactive on this type of stuff and avoid having to put eye sores in place.
Regarding the comments about storage (above)...we are looking at constructing a small building adjacent to the field to accomodate the football equipment and program. The interior locker rooms are comprised of 4 separate rooms with a combined area of 2000SF..I'm not sure what the present CP Allen locker rooms are like, but I suspect they are smaller than the rooms we are proposing. Music and art storage are programed items but are open for discussion if a solid case can be made for more space. Best thing to do is present this type of information at the teacher/architect room fit-up meetings to be held in February.
Excellent news regarding the allocated space for teams, clubs, etc.....these programs are a big Part of High School Life & Student Development and we need to ensure that the resources are made available for the programs to flourish. Thanks Craig, Any idea on the Date in February........Keep up the good work!!!
Just a note, please, please add lots of seating in that courtyard. I don't want our high school successors to be forced to sit on the ground or stand around like sheep (which is annoying as anything day in, day out). SEATING!!
